How many bricks per square foot?

Seven, for standard modular brick (7⅝ × 2¼") laid with ⅜" mortar joints in a single wythe — the figure masons estimate with. The calculator adds 10% for cuts and breakage.

How much mortar per 1,000 bricks?

About seven 80 lb bags of mortar mix — the standard estimating figure. For a small job, one bag lays roughly 140–150 bricks.

What type of mortar for brick?

Type N for general above-grade walls (the default), Type S where structural strength or below-grade exposure demands it, Type M for heavy structural work. Softer historic brick wants Type O — hard mortar destroys soft brick.
