Common questions

How deep should pea gravel be?

2" for walkways over a compacted base, 3–4" if going straight over landscape fabric on soil, 6–9" minimum for playground fall zones (check your local requirement), and full-depth for French drain trenches.

Does pea gravel need edging?

Yes — emphatically. The same roundness that makes it comfortable underfoot makes it migrate; without steel, aluminum, or stone edging it ends up in the lawn within a season.

How many tons per yard?

About 1.4 tons per cubic yard. One ton covers roughly 100 sq ft at 2" deep.
